As an astute social worker and professional policy advocate, you must be adept at identifying social problems that exist in your community or in an agency or organization with which you are acquainted. Once you have selected a social problem, you begin the process of creating and implementing a policy that addresses that social problem.
In this assignment, you identify and describe a current social problem. You also identify a policy created and implemented to address the problem. This is the first part of your Social Change Project final assignment.
Address the following items in a 3-4 page paper:
Describe a current social problem. How might this problem be incongruent with social work values/ethics?
How/when has this problem been identified historically, and what were the actions taken to address this concern?
How have the groups affected by this concern changed over time?
Describe the policy area related to this social problem.
Is the policy identified by your group dictated by local, state, or federal statute—or a combination thereof?
What are the different aspects of the policy?
How long has the current policy been in place?
Who supports and who opposes the policy?
What changes/amendments have been made to the policy?
Explain how this policy affects clients you might see in a clinical setting and why, as a clinical social worker, it would be important to advocate for change.
Make sure that your assertions are supported by appropriate research and reputable resources in text citations and APA format 7th addition

SOCIAL POLICY ADVOCACY 3
Social Policy Advocacy
Advocating for social policy involves the promotion of human needs to ensure a quality life for humans. Examples of these needs are; security, education, health, and general wellbeing. This article will look at the Petrakis family case where Alec, the son, is left to look after the grandmother, but this plan fails. The problem, in this case, is being addressed by Cindy, who is a beginner as a social worker. In this, she feels guilty for having agreed with Helen to consider Alec moving in to look after the grandmother. There is a range of values being displayed in the problem definition here. One of them is the responsibility; Cindy, the social worker, feels it's her responsibility to ensure that Alec's grandmother is protected from any form of abuse (Laureate Education, 2013). She goes ahead to confess her guilt when she advised Helen to have Alec's move in to stay with her grandmother, who would help to look after the grandmother. Another value portrayed by Cindy is her self determination to speak up for the powerless in society. Social workers should show self-determination in pushing for the empowerment of the powerless in society. She even goes ahead to show that she is willing to move her career focus towards elder justice for protection from elder abuse. This is a show of her selflessness to ensure the wellbeing of others.
Social policy advocacy should aim at the wellbeing of all people in society (Jansson, 2018). Therefore, based on this, what is being omitted is how to help out Alec, who is in his teenage. How can he be helped so that he does not go back to stealing from the grandmother to fund his drug abuse life? Alec could be suffering from his lack of a job to fund his own life, and unemployment as an issue should be addressed. This issue should be addressed to help solve the bigger problem in this situation. Elder security and justice should be advocated for as it is also acknowledged in the audio that we are getting older, and we will one day need the empowerment being made now at a later age.

SOCIAL CHANGE PROJECT 2
Social change project
Clinical social work entails the overall health care services in a healthcare facility. This involves diagnosis, treatment, mental illness prevention, and different types of therapies. Social workers that render these services are required to abide by the policies governing their practice to provide high-quality healthcare. These policies also protect the lives of the public. I am interested in advocating for the disabled because they are a group that is subconsciously ignored due to the nature of their condition. It’s also because there is not enough information to the public about their conditions.
Most of the time, disabled people are ignored by society, starved of services, live in self-isolation, segregation, poverty, and even pity. As a result of discrimination, they opt not to go to public places and are not free to fight for their rights that non-disable individual gets. Disabled people face these entire social problems due to the legislation's failure to protect their rights, ignorance from society, and lack of awareness among others (Kritsotakis et al., 2017). Mainstreaming and universal access for all people with disability will help solve these problems. This means that barriers are preventing them from accessing services to remove to allow equal accessibility. Society should be educated on matters concerning disable people to create awareness hence reduces the cases of discrimination.
It should be part of the policy of clinical social workers to ensure that disabled people have homes and workforce that facilitate their daily activities. For instance, providing them with workers who will help them feed; go out for shopping or medical appointments. They should also create awareness to reduce discrimination (Werner & Araten-Bergman, 2017). The government should also create a policy that ensures every entity or social amenities consider disabled people in all their business and social plans. For instance, when building new structures, their strategy should consider people with disabilities.
The project will ensure that people with disabilities receive proper care without discrimination as well as highlight the hidden or unspoken problems concerning their entire social lives. This eye-opening project might also promote change in the government enforcement of laws concerning disabilities or even encourage the creation of new legislation.
